This Monday Valentino rossi has shown his new Petronas Yamaha SIC colors in his 22nd MotoGP campaign and it is up to him to decide after the first third of the 2021 championship whether they will be the last as a rider or there is another year to spare.
As is clear in his contract, the only thing that Valentino Rossi does is change the colors of his Yamaha M1 since he maintains his status as a factory pilot of Iwata for which he has driven from 2004 to 2010 in a first stage and from 2013 to 2020 in a second stage and in this third it is assigned to the satellite team to make room for the promise of the three tuning forks Fabio Quartararo.
And David Muñoz, Idalio Gavira and Matteo Flamigni have come with him from the Yamaha Factory, who continue as Valentino’s chief mechanic, track advisor and electronic engineer in this new journey with Petronas.
Razlan Razali, the director of the Petrionas SRT structure, assures when asked about a possible renovation of Valentino Rossi that “As for all drivers, the first five or six races of the year will be crucial. Rossi is a very experienced driver, he will also need them to assess his performance. Apart from that, the contract is for one year because our agreement with Yamaha, and also with Petronas, expires at the end of the season and we could not undertake a longer commitment ”.
After adding the 125cc and 250cc world titles, the Tavullia rider jumped into MotoGP in 2000 with a team assembled for him with the Italian beer brand Nastro Azzurro as the main sponsor and full support of Honda, a pseudo satellite rider status that he now recovers. .
After two years in this structure of the 500cc era, where he won his first world title in 2001, he joined the Repsol Honda Team in 2002 and 2003, already in the MotoGP era, with two more titles.
After breaking free from Honda, he began his first stage at Yamaha from 2004 to 2010 in which his four remaining crowns fell.
In 2011 and 2012 he joined his destinies with Ducati, but the union was very unsuccessful for both parties in which Valentino did not win races, only signed three podiums, and even considered retirement.
Yamaha took the idea out of his mind by re-hosting him from 2013 to 2020 with 10 races won in this period.
