Villarreal was filled with confidence with an important victory against Getafe before traveling to London in search of a historic final. Those of Emery, who were not entirely superior to the Madrid team, did know how to take advantage of their opportunities and ended up leaving Getafe still with homework to do.
Peace of mind and good food
At the gates of history and with the semifinal against Arsenal looming, Emery preferred to reserve Gerard Moreno, his franchise player. He designed an attack not lacking in goal, but in the star that the international striker has with Spain (26 goals this season) and of course, that was noticeable from the beginning.
The game started with a more determined Getafe focused on the speed of its attacking players to be vertical with the ball at their feet. Thus, the approaches arrived, but not the occasions, and for that reason Villarreal remained more or less calm during the first half.
As it settled, more visited the Getafe area. First Chukwueze with a goal well disallowed for offside and then Capoué with an almost perfect volley they brushed the goal. If the French midfielder did not succeed, it was because David Soria became Superman and flew from stick to stick to avoid the yellow goal. Movie was his stop.
The quality was decisive
With the tie they headed back to the changing rooms and, after the break, the script was more or less the same. So Getafe did show their nails, but without hitting the claws. Mata had the 0-1 and they invalidated it for offside while Ünal, like an island in the azulón attack, also fought it.
However, Villarreal’s boots, endowed with higher quality than Getafe’s, were more effective and in the 78th minute after a series of adjustments on Emery’s scoreboard, the youth squad Yeremi overtook his. He stood before David Soria and crossed the ball with the veteran that he lacks, giving Villarreal three gold points in the face of one of the most important weeks in its history.
