Juan Mata has played for Manchester United since January 2014 and everything indicated that on June 30, the date on which his contract expires, he was going to end his time at Old Trafford. However, as revealed by the Daily Star today, the Asturian media, which will turn 33 on April 28, could continue to be a ‘red devil’.
Based on this information, Manchester United has decided by surprise to make use of the contract option that allows it to extend it for another season. In this way, if Mata decided to leave, the English club would receive 5 million pounds (5.9 million euros) as a transfer.
However, according to sources close to United, Mata would be delighted at the prospect of staying at Old Trafford for another year. Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has barely lined him up this season in a total of 12 games in all competitions, the Spaniard has settled in Manchester, where he owns a restaurant, among other businesses.
Mata is well loved and respected in the dressing room and this is the main reason Solskjaer has kept him on their squad.
