The Galatasaray of Istanbul has announced this Wednesday the sudden dismissal of the Moroccan international Younes Belhanda, considering that the recent criticism of the midfielder to the state of the grass was a lack of respect for the club’s board.
The team “has immediately, unilaterally and with just cause canceled” the contract with Belhanda, signed in July 2021, says a note published on the Galatasaray website.
Galatasaray affirms that Belhanda’s statements after the match against Sivasspor last Sunday “damage the image of the club and disrespect the board of directors,” adding that the player “had already insistently violated the internal discipline” of the team.
Younes Belhanda, 31, a former Schalke and Dynamo Kiev player and member of the Moroccan national team, complained after the 2-2 draw against Sivasspor about the poor condition of the turf at the Türk Telekom Arena, the Galatasaray stadium where the played the game.
“You have to take care of the field. So we can’t play how we want to. You see what state the field is in. It has to be better. The club should hire the best experts in the world to fix this, ”said Belhanda, as reported by the club itself.
However, according to CNNTürk, the player added: “The club’s managers should be interested in the state of the field instead of walking through Twitter and Instagram and looking at the media.
Belhanda apologized on Monday, saying that she had been misunderstood and that she did not want to disrespect management.
The player has scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists in the four seasons in which he has played for Galatasaray, where he earned 3.35 million euros a year, according to the aforementioned station.
