The spread of the virus continues to rise in Catalonia, where the risk of regrowth (EPG), which measures the potential growth of the epidemic, stands at 234 points, eight more than yesterday, while in the last 24 hours there have been 1,493 new infections and 11 deaths from COVID.
According to the epidemiological data updated this Sunday by the Department of Health, today there are 1,385 COVID patients hospitalized, 67 more than yesterday, of which 396 are seriously ill in the ICU, two more than the day before, with which the hospital pressure rises again.
The speed of spread of the disease (Rt) has increased although little, one hundredth, and today it is 1.11, that is to say, that every 100 infected infects an average of 111 people, which indicates a slow but constant expansion of the virus .
The cumulative incidence cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days (IA14), which remained stable until recently, also shows a worsening and has reached 211.17, five cases more than yesterday.
With today’s data, all the indicators are getting worse, on the verge of a fourth wave and in a few key days by the Holy Week.
From the beginning of the pandemic, at the end of February 2020 in Catalonia, the total number of cases confirmed by all kinds of tests totaled 594,337 infected, of which 1,493 were diagnosed yesterday, while in the last 24 hours 11 new deaths have been reported, with which the total number of fatalities in the pandemic rises to 21,249.
Positivity, that is, the percentage of positives in PCR tests and antigen tests, stands at 5.42%, above the 5% that the WHO indicates as the threshold for control of the epidemic.
Regarding the regions, those with a higher risk of regrowth (EPG) are Pallars Sobirà (2,302), Conca de Barberà, (1,565), Ripollès (1,028), La Garrotxa (685), Moianès (677) and the Val d’Aran (655).
Only five regions compared to seven yesterday are today below an EPG of 100, the threshold that indicates a high risk, of which only one, Solsonès (17), has a low risk – below 30-.
The other regions, all in Tarragona, are: Baix Penedès (70), Montsià (44), Baix Ebre (38) and Ribera d’Ebre (31), while Priorat, which was below that threshold of 100 , has doubled its risk of regrowth and is now above it, at 102.
The region of Barcelonès, the most densely populated, has an EPG of 227 points, eight more than yesterday, and a contagion speed (Rt) of 1.15, one hundredth more than the previous day.
As for the city of Barcelona, today it has an EPG of 239, eight points more than yesterday, and presents a virus spread speed (Rt) of 1.18, the same as yesterday.
