Today, May 19, 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the goodbye of Michel and Laudrup of Bernabeu. Both played their last game at the Real Madrid stadium on May 19, 1996. It was before the Merida in a game that ended 4-0 and in which Michel scored two of the four Real Madrid goals.
One of the images of that match was that of Michel when he was substituted in minute 83. Through tears, the youth squad left listening to the ovation of the Bernabéu and kissing the grass. Michel ended up playing a few minutes in the last game of the season against him Real Zaragoza at La Romareda in which was his last game with Real Madrid. He went to Athletic Celaya Mexican where were they Butragueño and Hugo Sánchez. It was only one season after which he retired.
Laudrup, for his part, he left Real Madrid, where he spent only two seasons. He arrived from Barcelona in 1994 and left in 1996 for the Vissel Kobe to end up hanging the boots on the Ajax. That match against Mérida was the last with Real Madrid because Laudrup had no minutes in Zaragoza.
A season to forget
Both ended their stage as players of the Real Madrid in lthe 1995-96 season that was very bad for the white club. After winning the 1994-95 League, the white team fell apart. Valdano was fired as coach and he did Lorenzo Sanz that had replaced Ramon Mendoza in the presidency of Real Madrid.
Forest replaced Valdano on the white bench, but only for one game (0-5 at San Mamés), since the club chose Arsenio Iglesias to carry the white ship. A ship that was wrecked. In the Championyes, the Juventus eliminatedor to the whites in the quarterfinals. On Liga, Real Madrid finished sixth and therefore outside of Europe. They surpassed him in the classification Espanyol and Tenerife, in addition to Atletico, champion, Valencia and Barcelona.
In the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid was eliminated by el Espanyol in the round of 16 and started the season losing the Spain Supercup before him Sportsor.
