The Meteorology Statal Agency (Aemet) has activated for this Thursday the Snowfall alerts throughout the Community of Madrid, which could be historic. The Aemet has activated for the moment the yellow alerts, from four in the afternoon to nine at night, and orange in the southern zone for the same period of time before the arrival of the stormy Philomena.
He Access to the mountains of Madrid will be prohibited from this Thursday due to the forecast of heavy snowfall in the region, for which the mountain passes will be closed as Navacerrada or Preserves, whose accesses have been saturated by visitors in recent days in which there have even been traffic saturations and whose parking areas have been full.
Snowfall will be almost generalized, more abundant in the south, where the accumulations can exceed 6 cm, but also in the capital, where it is estimated that on Friday it could reach about 10 cm.
The skies will be covered, with snowfalls at any level, already at dawn in the south and which will spread northward throughout the morning, being more persistent and intense in the south without ruling out that they will become so in other areas of community.
Minimum temperatures will plummet to -8 degrees and maximums in the southern region are expected to not exceed 0 degrees. The Government Delegation in Madrid has appealed to Madrilenians to be “sensible” and stay home for the weekend.
