Siegemund and Zvonareva, doubles champions in New York

The German Laura siegemund and the russian Vera Zvonareva won the US Open in doubles on Friday, beating the Chinese-American pair Yifan Xu and Nicole Melichar 6-4 and 6-4 in the final played at Flushing Meadows.

Siegemund (32) and Zvonareva (36) thus win their first great title together, at their premiere.

Zvonareva, 36, had already been the US Open doubles champion in 2006, making a duo with the French Nathalie dechy. In the Australian Open 2012 he triumphed by matching his Russian compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Zvonareva was a finalist in the singles of the USA Open in 2010, yielding to the Belgian Kim clijsters. She was the mother of Evelina in 2016, withdrawing for a time from the WTA Tour.
