Sharapova to return to the slopes in Brisbane

Maria Sharapova will reappear on the slopes the week of January 6 to 12 in the Brisbane, International category and for which you have received an invitation. This was announced by the organization in the last hours after learning that the Russian is preparing the start of the season on the tournament courts.

Sharapova is out due to her left shoulder injury since the end of the last US Open. Despite being able to complete the grass tour and the North American hard, these physical problems already had the Russian off the courts from February to June last year.

There has been speculation on several fronts that Sharapova could not continue competing on the circuit. Of course, the Russian has put aside the doubts by announcing her participation in a tournament that will show a large poster with her presence and those of Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova.

Sharapova will have to participate in Brisbane with an invitation, since after his discharge he has descended to 133rd place in the WTA ranking. This ranking closes the direct pass to the Australian Open, so “Masha” will have to wait for another invitation to be in the first Grand Slam of the year.
