Haas faces the 2021 season with a completely renewed spirit, with a new main partner such as Uralkali, a sponsor that comes from the hand of Nikita mazepin to fill the American car with Russian flags, and with a whole new lineup of drivers, leaving behind the years gone by with Grosjean Y Magnussen, who leave the witness to two ‘rookies’ such as the Russian pilot himself and the great star of the team, Mick schumacher. The team, in the words of its owner, Gene Haas, aspires to progress on the grid and leave behind his struggle at the rear, hoping to be able to fight for the points in the middle of the game. All this, due to the improvement they want to confirm in the Ferrari engine of this 2021, a propellant that last year had little power, something that made them fight at the bottom of the table. However, the team has clear its main goals for this year: “Learning” for its two drivers and focusing all its efforts on creating the car for 2022, the year in which a new era in Formula 1 will begin due to the revolution. in the regulations, which aims to change the order of forces on the grid and make the competition more equal and exciting, with more fights on the track.
For this last reason, and aware that they have two drivers who will not be able to be at the maximum starting level, the team is clear that their duty is to prioritize the creation of the 2022 car, and this Thursday, the team confirmed that they will not develop the current car throughout the course to put all their efforts into next year’s car.
“It’s an exciting time for the team with Uralkali coming on board and with Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher driving for us.. It’s definitely a total change, but I hope we’ll be back in the midfield to score some points in these races, “said Gene Haas in a statement introducing the new VF-21.
“It has been a difficult couple of seasons, but we have also set our eyes on the bigger picture, particularly in 2022 and on the implementation of the new regulations,” added the American.
“I am looking forward to seeing their development as pilots”
For its part, Günter Steiner, Director of Haas, focused on the learning of its two young pilots, Mick schumacher, 21 years old and owned by Ferrari, Y Nikita Mazepin, 22 years old and great source of resources of the American set.
“We are approaching a new season with a new regular partner and two new drivers, It will be an exciting year, albeit hopefully only in a good way. We face a year of learning with the pilots while technically looking to the future. It is no secret that the VF-21 will not be developed as we now focus our energies on the car of 2022 and what we hope is a more level playing field ”, added the engineer from Bolzano (Italy).
“We all know roughly where we hope to be this season in terms of competition, but we need to make sure we are there to seize the opportunities when they present themselves. But first we have to score the guys in the tests. The time behind the wheel is short (each driver will only have a day and a half of pre-season testing), so it will be a steep (learning) curve, but personally I am looking forward to seeing their development as drivers and as members of the Uralkali Haas F1 team. Team ”, concluded Steiner.
