Olympique de Marseille announced on Thursday an agreement in principle to incorporate the Catalan goalkeeper Pau López, owned by Roma, on loan next season with a purchase option in June 2022.
“AS Roma has given Pau López authorization to negotiate the conditions of his contract with OM,” the French club said in a brief statement.
Pau López, 26, came to the Italian team two years ago from Real Betis, where he spent a season after training in the lower categories and the Espanyol first team and being on loan at Tottenham.
The goal of OM with the incorporation of Pau López, international twice with Spain, is to look for a replacement for Steve Mandanda, who has been at the club for four years and is international with France, but is now 36 years old.

With the arrival of Pau López, Jorge Sampaoli, Marseille coach, continues to reshape his squad after having already incorporated Gerson (Flamengo), Konrad de la Fuente (Barça), Cengiz Ünder (Roma), Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal) as well to buy from Borussia Dortmund the rights of the previously transferred Leonardo Balerdi.
