Revolution in Dutch football

This is a pilot test in amateur football, but it is already a revolutionary idea. The KNVB (Dutch Football Association) has allowed a team, the Foarut, I integrated a girl into the men’s team for the first time. Is about Ellen fokkema, 19 years old.

The Foarút, from the fourth Dutch, has reached an agreement with the KNVB offering itself to this revolutionary test that is going to start next season and that, based on the results, it will decide if there is a good basis to allow men and women play mixed soccer.

Until now it was allowed in the Netherlands for girls to play with boys up to the age of 18, but not beyond. But when the children reached 19 they played in category A and they were kept in category B.

“It’s great to be able to continue playing for this team,” responds Ellen Fokkema, a VV Foarut first team player. “I have been playing with them since I was five years old and I regretted not being able to continue with them next year. The KNVB always advised me to continue playing with the children as long as possible, so why shouldn’t that be possible? ”Ellen wonders.

“It is quite a challenge and that excites me more. I asked the club if it was possible and together we submitted the application to the KNVB. My teammates also reacted enthusiastically that I could stay with them. I do not dare to say how it will go, but anyway I am very happy to be able to participate in this pilot test “, he says.
