Rea and hers, ready to seek the seventh crown

After a final round of the 2020 Superbike World Championship in Estoril in mid-October, the new season begins this weekend seven months later with the round of Motorland Aragón that will be behind closed doors, but the scene of the first of the battles scheduled this season that is divided into 13 rounds and 39 races.

And if a team arrives ready for this start of the championship, it is the Kawasaki Racing Team that repeats the pair with six-time world champion Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes. The Northern Irishman begins the campaign in search of his seventh consecutive title in the championship for himself and also for Kawasaki. Already in preseason it has been one step ahead with the new Ninja ZX-10RR that features aerodynamic improvements (including front internal spoilers) and other important changes.

The first objective that is marked in Alcañiz Rea is to cross the mythical barrier of 100 victories of the one who is one triumph. “I am very excited to be racing again, because it seems like last season was a long time ago. We recently had some very good training sessions, in which I felt good with the bike and it will be very good to go out on the track with everyone else to know where we are, ”explains Johnny Rea through the team statement.

“Aragon is a circuit that we have very good memories of after last year. We were strong on the weekend of the Motorland round and in the next round in Teruel. The goal is to start the year strong. It’s going to be a very tough couple of weeks, with two consecutive races, but starting the season in Aragon is fantastic because we just did a test there. I have a good feeling with the bike. The new Ninja ZX-10RR is certainly a step up from last year. I feel prepared ”, he points out.

A shoulder injury during training sessions prevented Alex Lowes, the twin brother of Moto2 rider Sam Lowes, riding in some Winter Tests, but he and his team have caught up and finished their preseason program in good shape, especially in the last test sessions at Motorland Aragón where Jonathan he was the fastest and Alex was second.

“The 2021 season has been a long time coming. It has been a longer preseason than normal, but luckily for me it has given me time to get to know my Ninja ZX-10RR better. I feel that I am prepared in the best possible way after all the winter tests. I have a good base setup and I control what happens with the bike. I’m in a good position and now it’s about making the best of every racing weekend, ”says the Briton.

Guim Roda, the team manager of the KRT Team, points out that “the start of the championship finally gives meaning to all our training activity and we are very happy to start the show at Motorland. Let’s hope that from now on everything goes better with the Covid situation and that little by little we can return to a normal situation and hopefully soon the fans can come to the races and enjoy the Superbikes. Johnny and Alex are more than ready. We hope to be competitive and even improve on last year’s results. We are going to see where the others are in this race weekend and see if all together we can put on a nice show to the world ”.
