The captain of the Porto, Pepe, who played for Real Madrid between 2007 and 2017 and has a contract in force until June 2023, will renew with the Portuguese club at the age of 40, according to the president of ‘los dragones’, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.
Pepe returned to Porto in January 2019 to share a dressing room with his Real Madrid friend Iker Casillas, after his time in Turkish football.
After two years of commitment, Pepe has become the benchmark of the Portuguese club and Porto renewed the contract he had for two more years, until June 2023.
In the current campaign, the central defender, who turned 38 last February, has established himself as one of the best footballers in his position and was one of the key players in the last Champions League tie, in which Porto eliminated Juventus and went to the quarterfinals.
In an interview with “Porto Canal” television, Pinto da Costa assured Pepe that “in two years, without a doubt, we will renew it, as it has been showing.” He also appealed to his good physical condition and recalled that in the last match, Pepe, despite being central, traveled more than 10 kilometers.
The player, born in Brazil and nationalized Portuguese, came to the Portuguese League in 2001, when he signed for Marítimo, and between 2004 and 2007 he played for Porto.
