Nacho’s injury disrupts Zidane’s route plan

Nacho Fernández’s injury three days after returning to competition in LaLiga Santander and the transfer in the winter market of Álvaro Odriozola Bayern Munich, they leave Zinedine Zidane with only Dani Carvajal on the right side, with eleven days to play in a single month, crossing his fingers so that his owner does not suffer injuries or sanctions or he will have to look for a wild card in the squad with Militao and Lucas Vázquez as options.

Zidane will have to pamper Carvajal to the maximum after receiving on Monday the bad news of Nacho’s muscle breakdown. In the season with the most injuries for the Madrid squad, he leaves Real Madrid without a substitute for the right-back at a key moment, for the eleven days that will be played with three games per week.

During the season, Carvajal has played up to nine consecutive games between October 22 and December 7. It was what ended up driving the decision of Odriozola to leave on loan, with the desire that later has not been fulfilled to have in the Bayern the minutes he was missing at Real Madrid. He left just as the Copa del Rey and he was going to have more opportunities from Zidane.

Until that moment, Odriozola gave Carvajal rest
in four games, as a natural replacement. Starting the League in the triumph of the first day in Balaídos against Celta, also against Osasuna and remaining as one of the signaled of the defeat of Mallorca that marked a turning point in the Madrid season. Since then he only played one more game, against the Witches in the Champions League in which there was nothing at stake with the classification as certified second and with no option to take PSG away from first place.

From Odriozola’s farewell, Carvajal has disputed almost everything, he even had to play in the cup butcher debut in Salamanca against Unionistas. On only three occasions has it been low, two of them covered by Nacho and the last one for Militao, which proved to have forgotten the automatisms on the side.

Carvajal’s last two losses coincided with the elimination of the Copa del Rey, with the 3-4 of Real Sociedad with Nacho on the right wing, and the defeat before the break due to the state of alarm in Spain against Real Betis (2-1), with Militao suffering especially on the wing and Real Madrid giving up the league leadership to Barcelona.

At a time when Zidane will resurrect his famous ‘plan b’ with the one who conquered the League in the past, Nacho’s injury is an unexpected incident that conditions the French coach’s route plan. I had studied in detail the calendar, marked in red the moments when I could give a break to Carvajal who will now force more of the account with his fingers crossed.
