Monaco qualified for the round of 16 of the French Cup by winning 2-0 at Nice with a great performance from Catalan Cesc Fàbregas, who gave the first goal with a great assist that the German Kevin Volland did not miss to open the marker.
Not a regular in the Monegasque squad this season, Cesc, who made his sixth start in an official match, was key in his team’s victory. With a magnificent assistance midway through the first half, he started the road to the second round.
Cesc, decisive in the victory
At 24 minutes, Cesc reached the bottom line on the left side of the field and gave a devastating back pass that Volland did not waste. The German striker, with an accurate strike, scored his 14th goal of the course to maintain Monaco’s dream of reissuing a title they have not achieved since the 1990-91 campaign.
Afterwards, the road to victory was not easy for Monaco. Nice pressed and tried to equalize the crash and was about to get it in the second half. Danish Kasper Dolberg had the clearest chance of his team with a shot that hit a goal post defended by Polish goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki.
Rubén Aguilar sentence at the end
That was the option in which Nice had the closest draw. Already in the final stretch, Montenegrin Stevan Jovetic was about to increase the rent for Monaco and Rubén Aguilar, in the 87th minute, sentenced.
