Modric will beat the record for international appearances with Croatia this Saturday

Luka
Modric, midfielder of Real
Madrid, will become this Saturday in the World Cup qualifying match against Cyprus in the player with the most matches played with the selection
of
Croatia, with 135 encounters.

Modric, who made his debut as an absolute international on March 1, 2006 in a friendly match against Argentina in Basel (Switzerland) with a 3-2 victory, equaled Dario Srna on Wednesday in the first qualifying match for Qatar 2022, in which the Zlatko Dalic’s team lost in Slovenia 1-0.

On Saturday the Croatian team will host Cyprus (6pm) at the HNK stadium in Rijeka, where, if Dalic sees fit, the Madrid player will set a new record.

Modric, who has scored sixteen goals with the national team, has participated in the World Cups in Germany 2006, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, in which Croatia was proclaimed champion and the Madridista was voted best player of the tournament. He also played the Euro Cups in Austria and Switzerland 2008, Poland and Ukraine 2012 and France 2016.
