The technician of the Liverpool, Jurgen
Klopp, you don’t expect to see players lining up to drop the reigning Premier League champions if they don’t qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Liverpool won the title last season, but a campaign marred by injuries and poor form has placed them in seventh place with 43 points from 27 games, four points behind Chelsea, who mark fourth place.
“I know we have the loyalty of the players,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home game against Fulham.
“It is not a situation in which a player on the squad says: ‘We are not in the Champions League, so I am leaving.’ That will not happen. I know them well enough to know, ”says the Teuton.
Liverpool have played in Europe’s elite club competition for the past four seasons, winning the title in 2019. But five of their six previous European campaigns were in the Europa League.
Klopp said failure to secure a Champions League berth next season would not lead to another stint in the desert. “This club will not be a regular outside of the Champions League. This year is difficult, we know, but the potential and the power of the club is completely different. I don’t know the team from 10 years ago, but we are ready for a battle in this era, and with the team that we have together ”.
And he concluded: “Obviously I did not think about what happened in the past but what I can say is that nobody has to worry about the future of the club because it is in good hands.”
