James Rodríguez, Everton midfielder, will miss the matches that the Colombian team will play on June 3 and 8 against Peru and Argentina, as well as the Copa América that will begin on June 13, for not being “at the optimal level of competition.” and will be replaced by Edwin Cardona, from Boca Juniors. The former Real Madrid player has not taken the decision well and has responded with a harsh statement.
The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) reported today that “the midfielder was subjected to medical examinations that determined that he is not at the optimum level of competence, so he will not be able to join the group called.” The agency does not detail the injury but James has suffered several muscle setbacks at Everton this season.
“The coach (Reinaldo Rueda) and his team of collaborators regret not being able to count on James Rodríguez on this occasion and hope that soon the midfielder will be able to be part of a call, representing our country with the height and professionalism as he has always done” added the FCF,
James’ reaction was immediate after being out of the call after being included in it initially on May 18. “I come from a recovery that is in its final part. In which I have taken enough time to fully integrate myself to the practice of football and in this way not affect my participation in the next commitments of our National Team. The pertinent times of this process suggest that I be careful to participate on date 7 of the tie, but they would allow me to fully integrate on date 8 and of course be for the Copa América 2021 ”, the Everton player wielded.
“With surprise I receive the statement from the coaching staff, stating that they do not count on me and wishing me a full recovery. Recovery that I have already made and in which I have sacrificed a lot ”, adds James. “The above fills me with deep disappointment, because for me it means playing for my country. Not receiving the trust of the coaching staff breaks with everything and causes me enormous pain, since I have always left even my life for the shirt of the Colombian National Team ”.
Wish your companions luck
Finally, James sends a message to his teammates, to whom he wishes all the luck in the world for these matches: “For my teammates the best energy and best wishes. In the distance I will support with the passion of always ”.
James has been in Colombia for several days after finishing his first season at Everton, in which he played 26 games, scored six goals and served eight assists, a period marked by injuries and physical losses.
Quintero, another sensitive loss
The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player thus becomes Rueda’s second casualty, who will not be able to count on creative Juan Fernando Quintero for his debut in Colombia due to health regulations that prevent him from leaving and returning to China.
As for Cardona, the FCF assured that the Boca midfielder will join the squad after the semifinal match that his team will play on May 31 against Racing Club of the Argentine Professional League Cup.
Colombia, which fired Portuguese Carlos Queiroz last year after losing 6-1 to Ecuador, occupies seventh place in the South American World Cup qualifying rounds with four points, the product of a win, a draw and two defeats.
In this double day he will visit Peru on June 3 and five days later he will receive Argentina at the Metropolitan Stadium in Barranquilla.
