The Mexican pilot Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, which this year will compete in the Formula One World with the team Red bull, highlighted the excellent feelings left by his new car, which “has a lot of potential.”
“Driving a new car is always special, both for the driver and for the team. They’ve been working really hard through the winter, so it’s an exciting day when you take the car out on the track, ”Perez said in a team statement.
“I can say that I think there is a lot of potential. Conditions weren’t great, but it was nice to get a feel for the car. It’s very exciting, “said the Mexican.
“Since I got out on the track I could feel that the car has a lot of potential. It’s very different from everything I’ve driven in my Formula One career in terms of the power unit, the brakes, the steering wheel, the grip, but I’m happy because I can see the potential of the car, ”said Pérez.
Pérez, who finished this year at the Austrian team after finishing fourth in the Drivers’ World Championship last year, rode his first laps in his new car at the English Silverstone circuit.
“I’m very happy. It was my first day with Red Bull and it was incredible. I think we have done a good job. Every time I feel more comfortable with my seat, with my pedals, with my steering wheel and that helps us to arrive as well prepared as possible for the first training session in Bahrain ”, explained the Mexican rider.
Sergio Pérez, who last year managed to debut his record in F1 after winning the second of the two tests held at the Sakhir circuit (Bahrain), accumulated laps, while the team focused on optimizing the adjustment of the seats, of the pedals and familiarization with operating procedures.
“Days like today help a lot to get to Bahrain as well prepared as possible, because when we get there we will only have a day and a half and any problem that you can save yourself is important, from the position of the steering wheel or the position of the seat,” explained Pérez.
The Mexican driver assured that he is increasingly “comfortable” in his new team.
“I’m already starting to feel more comfortable. We are all racers and when you are in an environment with cars around you you start to feel more comfortable. I’m already starting to joke with the mechanics, with my engineers and that, without a doubt, helps to start having that relationship and arrive as naturally as possible in Bahrain. That will be the objective of these test days ”, Pérez concluded.
