Emery only won in one of his five visits to Mestalla since his departure

The Valencia, which faces the Villarreal in Mestalla in League in an autonomous duel, he presents a favorable balance in the visits of his former technician Unai emery since he left the club in 2012, after four seasons, as he has only won one of his five visits.

The Basque coach who currently directs the Villarreal, was the tenant of his rival’s bench, Valencia, between the 2008-2009 and 2011-2012 seasons, and since then he has trained clubs such as Spartak Moscow, Sevilla, PSG and Arsenal.

During this time, Emery has faced Valencia on five occasions as a visitor and his balance has been four defeats – three league titles and one in European competition – and a triumph in the Europa League.

Regarding the League, his three clashes were in front of Sevilla, during the 2013-2016 seasons, and ended in defeat.

In the first, the Valencian team clearly beat Emery’s Sevilla 3-1 at Mestalla with goals from Jonas, two, and Víctor Ruiz on the Valencian side and Gameiro on the visiting side.

In the 2014-2015 season, history repeated itself and Valencia won with two goals from Parejo, one from a penalty, and Javi Fuego and the Colombian Bacca, from a penalty, scored on the Sevilla side.

His last league visit, 2015-2016 campaign, ended again with a defeat this time 2-1: Parejo and Negredo, scored for the locals, and Gameiro, for the away side.

He had more luck in his European duels as he fell twice to the Valencian team in the semifinals of the Europa League.

The first time, the 2013-2014 season, the elimination was dramatic since Valencia touched the final of the competition after coming back from 2-0 in the first leg at Mestalla, but a goal in the extension time of the Cameroonian M’bia, qualified Sevilla (3-1) for a final in which they later beat Portuguese Benfica.

The other elimination occurred in the 2018-2019 season but then Arsenal’s superiority was manifest and the London club won 2-4 at Mestalla in the second leg after winning 3-1 in the first leg.
