Brazilian coach Sylvio Mendes Campo Júnior ‘Sylvinho‘, former player of Arsenal, Celta de Vigo and FC Barcelona, among other clubs, promised on Tuesday delivery and fight by assuming the leadership of the Corinthians. “Our team enters, organizes, knows what it has to do and is going to fight. It is going to fight, play, fight, dispute and that is what we want and demand from this team. These are characteristics that cannot be lacking,” Sylvinho said in a press conference on the occasion of his presentation.
The coach, who worked as an assistant to the Brazilian coach, Adenor Leonardo Bacchi ‘Tite’, signed a contract with the São Paulo team until December 2022.
He will replace Vagner Mancini, dismissed on May 16 after the team’s elimination against Palmeiras in the semifinals of the Paulista Championship, the regional tournament that brings together the best clubs in the state of Sao Paulo.
Sylvinho, who trained as a footballer at Corinthians, stressed that “there is no time to lose” and that he will demand a “high level of concentration” from his players. “Surrender. Concentration. Be attentive to everything, absorbing everything,” he insisted.
Likewise, he acknowledged that not many reinforcements will arrive for the Brazilian Championship, which will begin this Saturday, although he stressed that he sees a squad “in good condition” and with space to “enhance and improve it.”
“Corinthians is used to winning titles, but this stage is new, of construction. Patience, we have young players, others more experienced. We have to join forces, with race and dedication, which is the least we can give to our fans,” he said .
Before Corinthians, for a brief period in 2019 he managed the French Olympique Lyonnais, who fired him after a bad run of results.
Sylvinho, 47, will make his debut as a Corinthians coach next Sunday on the first day of the Brazilian League, in which he will face Atlético Goianiense, at the Neo Química Arena in Sao Paulo.
