Brazilian, in which the Rio team faces a very serious threat of falling to the Second Division.

The club reported in a note that the coach’s departure was decided “by mutual agreement”, but Luxembourg released a message on his social networks in which he implied that he was dismissed.

“We did not get the renewal of the contract. Vasco da Gama understood that I should not give continuity to my work” in the next season and “I understood that this is part of a natural process, normal in football,” said the former Brazilian coach.

Luxembourg took over the reins of Vasco da Gama on January 1, with the club already in a very delicate position in the Brazilian Championship, which the 68-year-old veteran coach could not reverse.

The team is in box 17 of the classification and leads the group of four clubs that will fall to the Second Division.

On the last day of the tournament, which will be played this Thursday, Vasco da Gama will have the impossible mission of beating Goias by at least 12 goals and, in addition, expect a defeat from Fortaleza, who will visit Fluminense.

According to Luxembourg, Vasco da Gama has serious budget problems and is embarking on a restructuring process, in which “there was no room” for the renewal of its contract.

The coach, who has already led the most important teams in Brazil and was at the helm of Real Madrid in the 2004-2005 season, said that when he agreed to join Vasco da Gama with the threat of relegation, he did so believing that “he could contribute to stay in the first “division.

“I did not succeed”, concluded the coach, who said that he is leaving the Rio team “happy to have worked in that institution”, without “any kind of grudge” and convinced that the Basque will be back in the First Division in 2022.
