Chef José Andrés, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord

The well known Spanish chef Jose Andres and his NGO World Central Kitchen have been awarded the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Concord. José Andrés is one of the most internationally known chefs. In 2012, he founded the NGO World Central Kitchen to address the food shortage that occurred in Haiti due to the devastating earthquake that hit the country. Since then, the organization has carried out actions all over the world and always with one objective that is to end hunger in the world.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, both the chef and the organization he founded have continued to carry out initiatives to help the most vulnerable. Born in Mieres (Asturias), his family moved to Barcelona when he was still little, and it was in Barcelona where he began to cook. At the age of fifteen, he entered the Barcelona School of Catering and Hospitality and learned at El Bulli. Years later he decided to go to the United States, where he achieved the success that he maintains to this day.
