According to a source close to Rennes, Bruno Genesio will be the new coach of said team, thus becoming the replacement for Julien Stéphan, who resigned last Monday.
Since Rennes announced the resignation of Stéphan, the name of Genesio circulated as a favorite to occupy the bench of the team in which Eduardo Camavinga plays. Genesio, 54, a midfielder in his time as a player, coached Lyon between 2015 and 2019, while he did the same with Chinese Beijing Guoan (2019-2021).
Bruno Genesio will collaborate as in Lyon, with Florian Maurice, Rennes’ current technical director, who said that to relieve Stéphan he wanted a coach capable of making the youngsters at the training center develop their game, as well as giving them confidence. A profile that corresponds to that of Genesio.
Stéphan, who had managed Rennes since December 2018, decided to resign after last Friday’s defeat against Nice (1-2), leading to a victory in 10 games. This Wednesday in Ligue 1 Rennes, with Philippe Bizeul with interim, faces Lyon.
