Boca qualifies for the final of the Maradona Cup

Boca Juniors equaled (2-2) as a visitor against Argentinos Juniors and, after the 0-2 defeat of River plate versus Independent assured his classification at the end of the Diego Maradona Cup.

Mauro Zárate and Ramón ‘Wanchope’ Ábila scored goals for ‘Xeneize’, while Diego Sosa and Fausto Vera converted for ‘Bicho’ in an intense match played on Saturday night.

This point allowed Boca Juniors to reach nine points in the Zone A Championship and beat both Argentinos Juniors and River Plate by one, which tonight lost 2-0 at home to Independiente with two goals from youth Alan Velasco.

In this way, the ‘Xeneize’, directed by Miguel Ángel Russo, secured his passport to the final next Sunday where he will wait for the winner of the Zone B Championship, which will be defined this Sunday with three applicants: Banfield, Talleres de Córdoba and Gymnastics and Fencing La Plata.

For Boca Juniors, who lined up several regular relays in the match against Argentines, this classification is a mental boost for the definition of the Copa Libertadores semifinal next Wednesday as a visitor against Santos.

In the first leg, Boca drew goalless with Santos in the Bombonera, leaving the series open for next Wednesday’s match at the Vila Belmiro stadium.

The other Copa Libertadores semifinal will also have another Argentine protagonist, as River Plate will travel to San Pablo to try to reverse the 0-3 suffered against Palmeiras in the first leg.

This Saturday one of the finalists of the Complementation Zone was also defined, which will be Vélez Sarsfield, after his 3-2 victory against Godoy Cruz, which left him three points ahead of Newell’s Old Boys, who fell 3-1 as a visitor before Racing Club.

After winning Zone B Complementation, Vélez will wait for the definition of his rival for the match to be played on Saturday also in San Juan.

In Zone A, despite losing 2-0 to Lanús this Saturday, Rosario Central remains the leader but will have to wait for the postponed meeting between Defense and Justice against Aldsivi, which will be played on Thursday, to confirm his rival.

Defense and Justice, which between Tuesday in Asunción and Saturday in Buenos Aires will also have to define its postponed series of the Copa Sudamericana semifinal against Coquimbo Unido of Chile.

The ‘Falcón’ will need to beat Aldosivi by six goals on Thursday to deprive Rosario Central of playing the final of the Complementation Zone against Vélez Sarsfield.

Precisely the ‘Fortín’ will enjoy this Wednesday the rematch against Lanús of the other semifinal of the South American Cup, which in the first leg had the ‘Granate’ triumph by 0-1 as a visitor.
