Boca draws and River loses to the champion, Colón

The start of the new tournament of the Argentine Soccer Professional League recorded on his first day the defeat at home of River plate before Colón (1-2) and the tie of Boca Juniors against Unión in Santa Fe (1-1).

The opening day, which did not register triumphs of the ‘big five’, had ties of the remaining three, with equalities of San Lorenzo (1-1 with Arsenal), Racing Club (0-0 with Vélez Sarsfield) and Independiente (0 -0 with Argentinos Juniors).

In other outstanding results of this initial date, Lanús thrashed 4-2 against Atlético Tucumán with two goals from José Sand, the experienced 41-year-old forward, Huracán beat Defensa y Justicia 2-1, and Newell’s Old Boys defeated Talleres de Córdoba 3-2.

Boca, with an alternative team, tied with Unión. Following a goalless draw with Atlético Mineiro at home for the Copa Libertadores round of 16, Boca Juniors drew 1-1 with Unión in Santa Fe on Friday in the match that marked the tournament’s debut.

Agustín Obando opened the scoring for the ‘Xeneize’ and Fernando Márquez decreed the final tie for the ‘Tatengue’ in an intense duel where Miguel Ángel Russo, Boca coach, preserved most of the starters for the decisive duel of the series of the next Tuesday against Mineiro in Belo Horizonte. The match saw the debut of 16-year-old left-back Valentín Barco, who became the fourth-youngest player in the club’s history.

River, for its part, suffered a defeat against the defending champion. They fell 1-2 to Colón at the Monumental Stadium in their presentation this Sunday in the tournament, in a fall that closed a week without success for Marcelo Gallardo’s team. After a 1-1 draw with Argentinos Juniors, also at home, in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, the ‘Millonario’ suffered a setback against Colón, the defending champion of the last gaucho tournament.

Rodrigo Aliendro and the Colombian Yéiler Goez scored for the Santa Fe team, while Matías Suárez, in the last minute of play, discounted for the locals.

Independiente and Argentinos sealed a goalless draw

Independiente and Argentinos Juniors, both in international competition, drew 0-0 in the match that marked the end of the four-game series scheduled for Sunday.

Both teams, which preserved some headlines for their commitments in the South American Cup and Libertadores respectively, had an intense match but without being able to modify the zero of the score.

After this result, Independiente will receive Santos this Thursday to define the round of 16 crossing after having lost 1-0 in the first leg in Brazil, while Argentinos will be local to River after the 1-1 draw registered in the Monumental.

Racing Club, meanwhile, drew 0-0 with Vélez Sarsfield in one of the most attractive matches on this first day of the Argentine Soccer Professional League Tournament. Both coaches, both Juan Antonio Pizzi and Mauricio Pellegrino, put together a team with some starters and most reserves for this first match of the local championship.

While Racing next week will host San Pablo after a 1-1 record in Brazil, Vélez Sarsfield will visit Barcelona in Guayaquil after a 1-0 win in the first leg.

San Lorenzo only added one point against Arsenal

San Lorenzo could not get out of the tie in his visit to Arsenal. In the debut of Uruguayan Paolo Montero as coach, San Lorenzo drew 1-1 as a visitor against Arsenal de Sarandí in a match that also marked the return of Néstor Ortigoza to the ‘Cyclone’. Nicolás Fernández opened the score for the visitor, while Mateo Carabajal scored the final tie on the scoreboard.

San Lorenzo came to this duel with the controversy of Juan Ramírez, who did not focus on the match since he is in negotiations for a possible transfer to Boca Juniors.
