Bencic survives Bernarda Pera in Madrid

The Switzerland Belinda Bencic, eighth favorite, survived the confrontation with the American Bernarda pear that was scored in the tiebreaker of the third set (3-6, 6-1 and 7-6 (5)), to access the Round of 16 of the WTA 1000 in Madrid.

Pear, number seventy in the WTA ranking and without any title in its history, which reached the round of 16 in 2018, in its only participation so far, pushed the Helvetica to the limit, which had to maintain the pulse to culminate a fabulous comeback that culminated in the tiebreaker of the third set and continue at the Mutua Madrid Open.

It took two hours and 42 minutes to win Bencic, a finalist this year in Adelaide and who was a semifinalist in the WTA 1000 in Madrid in the last contested edition, who resisted Pera’s good game, clinging to her chances until the end.

The Swiss, with a history of four titles and eleven finals, will face the Tunisian in the round of 16 Ons Jabeur, that was imposed on the American Sloane stephens for 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3.
