Belgian football returns to training

With the start on Monday of a new phase of lack of confidence in Belgium, football clubs are resuming training, with the prospect of starting the 2020-21 season at the beginning of next August. The final of the 2019-20 Cup will be played on August 1 and will be played by Bruges (league champion) and Antwerp. It must be remembered that the Belgian league was terminated due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There are teams such as Saint-Trond that have returned to work this Monday, after submitting their players to a battery of medical tests that include tests to detect if they are infected with coronavirus, while others such as Antwerp, Charleroi, Anderlecht or Bruges will return. to train next week.

The clubs still doubt whether to organize rallies in the Netherlands or Germany from July to prepare for the next season.

The Belgian soccer league ProLeague, meanwhile, wants to subject all first and second division professionals to Sars-CoV-2 diagnostic tests before July 1.

The Belgian league, suspended at the beginning of the application of social distancing measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, was terminated on May 15 with the classification in force on day 29, by decision of the League General Assembly, in which the teams of the first two divisions of the country are represented.

Bruges was proclaimed champion and will enter directly into the group stage of the Champions League, while Ghent will play in the qualifying tie and Waasland-Beveren, last classified, will automatically descend to the Second Division.

The 2020/21 season is scheduled to start on August 7.
