Bartra: ‘All 25 of us must be prepared to compete’

Marc
Bartra He lived through a difficult season in 2020-21, the first in his already long career in which an injury – apart from the mishap suffered in his hand after the attack on the Dortmund bus – took him out for almost three months. Now he faces the new campaign with Real Betis with renewed illusions and returning to play three competitions, the usual during his time at Barcelona and Germany. “It’s what we want, it personally motivated me to come to Betis. Compete every three days. It keeps you focused on the day to day. It is something positive, it is true that you have to have a good group, all 25 of us have to be prepared to compete ”, said the Betic center-back in statements to the club’s media.

The sports management is immersed in the search for a center-back to replace Mandi and at the moment Manuel Pellegrini has Bartra, Víctor Ruiz, Sidnei and Kike Hermoso, apart from Edgar, to fill the position. “Mandi is one of the longest-wearing. We have four centrals knowing what the coach wants and wanting to start the year, “says Bartra in this regard.

The Catalan center-back has already forgotten the injury that caused him so much last season: “The season is already exciting in itself and I have personally recovered,” says Bartra, who hopes to regain his best level and, why not, return to tell for the Spanish team: “It’s something that motivates me a lot too, although first we have to focus on Betis.”

The return of the fans, a plus

The return of fans to the stadiums is an added value that Betis must assert, according to Bartra: “Betis is one of the best in Spain, we must assert it. In the moments we need the most, they help us. I think it will be a plus to get the best out of each one. It is impossible not to feel what the people, the captain, transmit to us. It seems like I’ve been at Betis for more years than I’ve actually been ”.
