Atlético’s leadership is in danger after its defeat in San Mamés

Athletic made the party bitter for the leader in San Mamés. The colchoneros were defeated by the Bilbao team after a early riser goal by Berenguer Y another last by Iñigo Martínez. Between one and the other both from Bilbao, Savic managed to tie provisionally.

The lions were better until halftime. Then, with the score against, the visitors stepped on the accelerator in search of the comeback. Simeone pulled his heavy artillery in this attempt that seemed to bear fruit with his central goal. The changes, however, also improved a Bilbao team riddled with regular substitutes.

Atlético continues to depend on itself to proclaim itself champion, but if Barça wins the postponed match against Granada on Thursday, they will be second in the table. The Camp Nou clash between Koeman and Simeone on the next 8 may be definitive.

Marcelino faced the visit of the leader with three changes compared to the starting eleven he presented on Wednesday at Villamarín and many of his usual starters on the bench or in the stands injured. Capa entered through De Marcos, Iñigo Martínez occupied the Plaza de Lekue with Balenziaga back to the left-handed side and Dani García formed the double pivot with Vencedor. Sancet and Villalibre repeated up with Morcillo on the left wing.

Simeone, for his part, kept the team that came from competing at the start in the last two days. The only variation was given by the presence of Felipe in the axis of the rear in substitution of the sanctioned Jiménez. Atlético, at least from the start, stood with a 1-4-3-3 with Correa as a stiletto Llorente and Carrasco glued to the bands and Koke, Herrera and Saúl in the center.

The Athletic’s spirited departure resulted in an early goal from Berenguer. The Navarrese took advantage of a pass from Capa, with a rebound in Felipe’s leg, to beat Oblak with a head. 8th minute of the match.

Carrasco tried it right away. Correa, a little later. The mattresses were not quite comfortable on the grass in front of an Athletic sober behind and ready to surprise by speed. Villalibre, Capa and Sancet were thus accumulating arrivals before Oblak. Shortly before the end of the first half he arrived in a bad news for the lions in the form of Capa’s injury, replaced by Lekue.

Atlético stepped on the accelerator from the very start of the second half. Llorente, Correa and Carrasco warned of the mattress intentions. Simeone, seeing that his team still lacked punch up, hit Joao Félix, Lemar and Suárez. Athletic had their option shortly after in a counter that Sancet culminated with a shot over the crossbar.

The second tactical bet of the mattress coach consisted of entering Torreira first and Lemar later. Marcelino looked for oxygen with Vesga and Williams in the first instance and Unai López later. The visitor’s insistence resulted in the tying goal. Savic, with a header, took advantage of a corner kick to beat Unai Simón in the 77th minute. Ibai was the last Bilbao bet.

Atlético’s pressure lost in intensity as the minutes passed and the lions were coming out of the cave little by little. Iñigo Martínez, five minutes to go, scored the second local goal with a splendid header to corner kick.
