Asensio finds his place as a revulsive

Marco Asensio he has lost his status as the undisputed starter at Madrid. That, far from being bad news for the Majorcan winger, has helped him find a new role in the team of Zidane. The Balearic attacker has chained three consecutive games as a substitute for the white team (Elche, Atalanta Y Celtic), after being a fixture in the eleven due to the plague of injuries that hit the Madrid squad.

Until his substitution against him Elche (where he did not play for a single minute) Asensio had twelve consecutive games counting Liga and Champions being the owner. In those duels, he was unable to score a single goal and his poor performance and little impact on the white attack was the subject of much criticism.

Zinedine Zidane took action on the matter after the poor performance of Marco Asensio in the Madrid derby of the Metropolitan Wanda and chose to change the system before the Elche to prepare the duel against Atalanta. From 4-3-3 it went to 3-5-2 with Vinicius as a companion of Karim Benzema and the technician repeated formula against him Atalanta. In Vigo he returned to his most common drawing but it was Fede Valverde the one who served as an attacker on the right wing.

In the last two meetings, Asensio played the role of revulsive to perfection. With the Italian team he entered the final stretch and scored 3-1 on the first ball he touched just after Atalanta closed the gap and sowed uncertainty in the final minutes. Asensio’s goal buried Bergamascan hopes and sealed Madrid’s pass to the quarterfinals of the Champions.

In the party of Bullets, where the whites played a good part of their aspirations to the title of League, Zidane kept Asensio on the bench and Vinicius at eleven. On this occasion the French coach turned to the Mallorcan with 20 minutes to go as a substitute for Kroos. As against Atalanta, the Mallorcan appeared in the final stage to make a good assist from Benzema.

In these two games, entering as a shock as a substitute and playing a total of 28 minutes, Asensio has scored the same goals (2) as in the other 1,900 minutes he had played so far this season.

With Vinicius more and more intoned and Rodrygo Gaining confidence after overcoming his injury, Asensio’s role seems oriented to be that of Madrid’s revulsive.
