Days has been appointed to direct the Villarreal-Arsenal, corresponding to the first leg of the Europa League semifinals, while the Spanish Carlos del Cerro Grande will arbitrate Manchester United-Roma.
Dias will be assisted in the bands by Rui Tavares and Paulo Soares; the fourth referee will be Tiago Martins; and in the VOR room there will be João Pinheiro as VAR and Luis Godinho as AVAR.
Born in Vila Nova de Gaia on July 14, 1979, an international since 2010, Dias already led Villarreal in La Cerámica in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The Castellón team, who had won the first leg by 1-3, sentenced the tie on March 14, 2019 with another victory, by 2-1, which was sealed by Colombian Carlos Bacca and Gerard Moreno.
He also once managed Arsenal in the 2016/17 Champions League. The London team, in which Santi Cazorla was a member, beat the Bulgarian Ludogorets 6-0 with a hat-trick from Mesut Ozil.
This season he has directed several meetings of the two continental competitions. In the Champions League he refereed the 0-4 that Chelsea achieved against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and in the Europa League the 0-2 of Manchester United against Granada at Los Cármenes.
He was also the fourth official in Barcelona’s 2-8 loss to Bayern Munich in the last Champions League.
The other first leg of the semifinals will be directed by Del Cerro Grande from Madrid. He will be assisted in the bands by Juan Carlos Yuste and Roberto Alonso Fernández; Jesús Gil Manzano will be the fourth official; and in the VOR room there will be Alejandro Hernández Hernández as VAR and Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea as AVAR.
