A former athlete joins the candidacy of Ione Belarra to lead Podemos

The candidacy of the Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, to the fourth state citizen assembly of Podemos (Vistalegre IV) will have on their lists the incorporation of the actress María Botto and the former athlete Roberto Sotomayor, as well as the newly elected deputies to the Assembly of the Community of Madrid Alejandra Jacinto and Serigne Mbaye.

Sources close to Belarra’s candidacy have indicated to Efe that the four are already on the list for the new State Citizen Council of the formation and They emphasize that Botto and Sotomayor are “two of the main novelties that will make up the candidacy.”

At Vistalegre IV, to be held in June, The new general secretariat will be elected, after the departure of Pablo Iglesias, a position for which Belarra is opting and whose candidacy she officially confirmed a few days ago.

Belarra will present all the members of her candidacy this coming Saturday in Valencia, in what will mean the start of her campaign as a candidate for the general secretary of Podemos, the same sources explain.

Botto, who has extensive experience in both theater, film and television, was nominated for a Goya Award in 2003 for her performance in David Trueba’s Soldados de Salamina.

Also noteworthy is her performance in Celos, by Vicente Aranda, for which she was nominated in 1999 for the Goya for Best New Actress and for which she won the award in this revelation category at the Toulouse Film Festival that same year.

The candidatures for Vistalegre may be submitted in advance until May 19 and they will be published on the 20th, so that on the 21st the period will open to receive the guarantees that the candidates will have to present on May 25, according to the Podemos regulations.

Until May 26, they will have a deadline to prepare the political, organizational, ethical and feminist documents, which they must register together with the lists that same day, and on May 27 the census will be closed that will be able to vote in Vistalegre IV , which will be all registrants who have verified their identity before that date.

On June 3, the candidatures and documents will be definitively published, and the electoral campaign will take place between June 3 and 12, while the voting will take place between the 6 and 12 of that same month.
