5-0: Corinthians runs over Sport Huancayo

Without classification possibilities, the Corinthians Brazilian and the Sport Huancayo Peruvians were measured this Thursday in Sao Paulo in a match for the fifth day of group E of the South American Cup, which ended with a 5-0 win by the hosts.

Both teams saw their desire to advance to the next stage of the competition fade after the victory last Tuesday of River Plate, 2-1, over Peñarol, a result that classified both the Paraguayans and the Uruguayans.

Throughout the tournament, Corinthians had so far added only four points in four games, while Sport Huancayo is the bottom of the group after being defeated in all their commitments.

Thus, in a match where honor was at stake, the hosts from São Paulo opened the scoring when they barely ran ten minutes on the clock, with a score from Gustavo Mosquito, who pushed the ball to the back of the goal after the goal. collecting a corner kick.

The Peruvians had the opportunity to leave it all the same on the court shortly after, in a quick solitary play by attacker Charles Monsalvo, but his powerful shot was scratched into the Brazilian goal.

Corinthians adopted an offensive stance from the start and bet on patient exchange of passes, but found it difficult to penetrate the tight ranks of their opponents.

The team led by Vágner Mancini finally extended the lead at 34 minutes, after a failure by the Peruvian defense that allowed Mateus Vital to steal the ball, dribble two opponents and finish in the goalkeeper’s corner with a shot from outside the goal. area.

From then on, the hosts pushed even more and dominated the pitch, although they missed several opportunities to get away on the scoreboard already in the first half.

In the second part of the event, things got even more complicated for the Peruvians with the expulsion of midfielder Joazhiño Arroé for an elbow against Guilherme Camacho, just back on the pitch.

With the numerical advantage, Corinthians’ third goal was not long in coming.

After a corner kick in the 55th minute, defender Gil jumped more than everyone else, headed the ball in the heart of the area and left goalkeeper Joel Pinto with no chances.

Shortly after, two goals only 10 minutes apart, scored again by midfielder Gustavo Mosquito and forward Luan, sealed the paulistas’ 5-0 win at home.

On the sixth and final matchday, to be played on May 26, Corinthians will host Paraguayan River Plate while Sport Huancayo will face Peñarol in their fort.
