The Lanús Argentine thrashed this Thursday 4-1 a Equity from Colombia in the fifth and penultimate day of Group H of the South American Cup but both were left without possibilities of qualifying for the eighth because the Guild Brazilian beat Aragua Venezuelan.
The 40-year-old center forward José Sand scored two goals and was the star of the match. Lautaro Acosta and Pedro De la Vega scored the other goals.
Diego Herazo converted his head towards the end of the match.
Gremio, who beat Aragua 2-5 tonight, leads with 15 points, Lanús reached nine, La Equidad was left with six and the Venezuelans remain last without units.
During the first half, Lanús had possession of the ball for the longest amount of time, but failed to transform it into clear scoring chances.
La Equidad counterattacked well, taking advantage of the spaces, but failed in the last pass.
The few auctions that were, were diverted.
De la Vega received, at 31 minutes, a long pass from the right and finished with a goal, but Cristian Bonilla flew to his right and deflected the shot.
At 45 minutes, Sand scored a great goal with a spectacular pirouette from the penalty spot, after an assist from Colombian Alexis Pérez.
The 2-0 came in the 51st minute, when another club emblem, 33-year-old Lautaro Acosta, converted after an assist from Lucas Vera.
The Colombians went ahead in search of the discount, but Lanús converted the counterattack 3-0. Vera overflowed on the right and threw a cross that Sand changed for a goal in the 64th minute.
In the 77th minute, Herazo headed in after a free kick from the left of the attack.
Only two minutes later, De la Vega scored Lanús’s quarter with a head.
Lanús and La Equidad needed to win in Argentina and for Gremio to lose to Aragua in order to reach the last round with chances.
On the sixth and final date, to be played on May 27, La Equidad will host Gremio and Lanús will host Aragua.
